A fun system for logging ideas, techniques, and notes

Whenever I feel like something isn't working, I know I need to figure out a system to put in place.  So, I've just done this with note taking, because I'm not a fan of taking notes for self-improvement in different areas of my life and then forgetting all about my notes because they're all mixed up in random notebooks!

I mostly use this system when I am watching informative YouTube videos, mind sweeping/brain dumping, or just web-surfing and coming across information that gives me ideas for my own projects.

So, after I purchased some index cards and an index card box, I made tabs for the different areas of my life.

So far I have:

Network Marketing
- for my business -

Simply Clean
- for my cleaning company -

Goals
- my goals, plus advice on goal setting -

Practice
- for ideas that I want to put into practice immediately -

Gratitude
- a log of my "wins" each day -

I'm thinking that my next tabs will include Health for recipes, and Secret OWL Society (of course) for blog ideas, Photoshop for techniques...
Yup, I think this system is going to stick. :)

Roasted Veggies Recipe

I've literally just baked this 10 minutes ago, took this picture, slapped the words on it with PicMonkey and now I'm sitting down to share this quick and simple recipe.

1
Cut veggies - not too thick, not too thin.
You can use:
Carrots
Zucchini
Cauliflower
Potatoes

2
Toss veggies in a bowl with seasoning and olive oil.
You can use:
Sea salt
Crushed Red Pepper
Garlic Powder
Thyme
Anything you like

3
Spread evenly on a baking sheet.
Use more than one baking sheet if you have more than can fit evenly on one pan.

4
Bake in the oven at 425 degrees for 20 minutes (move veggies around on the pan after 10 minutes)

5
Cool off and enjoy!

Make the Activity the Goal

Duolingo and Lift (apps that I downloaded onto my iPhone recently) have reminded me of a critical success principle, and that is - don't make the goal the goal. Make the activity the goal.

Why is this important? Because you always have 100% (pretty much) control over doing an activity.  You can wrap your mind around activities and while it's vital to have big goals, you can't really DO the goal...you can only do the activity.  And when you focus on the activity, the goal takes care of itself.

So take any big goal you have right now and break it down into activities that can be accomplished on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.  I've done this with my goal to learn how to speak French.  I used to have trouble sticking to the goal because it would seem so far away.  Now that I found an easy, pleasant way to study with my Duolingo app, I've stopped focusing on the goal and started focusing on the activity instead: Complete 1 lesson in French on Duolingo every day.

Now I study my French a lot more.

Check out the Lift app as a way to measure your progress.  Measuring your progress in completing daily activities is the other side of the coin - don't skip it!

What do you do to measure your progress toward a goal?

OWL Interview with Rupa

This interview comes from Rupa.  She's a true entrepreneur and helps run her family's business.  When I saw her the other day, I asked her if she would like to share what she's learned.  I know you'll get alot of value from her advice.  Enjoy!

What do you like best about being an entrepreneur?

When you're an entrepreneur, you look at every possibility to make some business.  That's what I like the most about being an entrepreneur.  There is no limit to what you can accomplish.  You can basically call your own shots and take charge of your own life and what you want to earn and gain from the opportunities that come across your way.

What is it like working in a family business?

It is definitely not the easiest thing.  Sometimes we have to stop and remember we are professionals, and not bring issues from home to the office.  The best thing is that we all believe in each other.  We motivate and challenge each other everyday.  Of course we want to grow continuously so having hard working hands and minds in the business definitely helps accomplish the dreams and visions we see for our empire.

What advice would you give to other young women entrepreneurs?

If you have a dream and a vision in your mind chase it.  You can do whatever you set your mind to, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  You have to block out the negative energy and stay focused on the positive.  Put your mind and heart into your dreams for success.  Don't give up and tell yourself and repeat to yourself you can do it.  You're mind is a powerful thing.  It is basically your wheel to your vehicle you take yourself where you want to go in life and what you want to accomplish.

Surround yourself with people who will motivate you also.  Have a goal and stick to it.  Most importantly be yourself and be hard working.  Nothing in life comes easy and you just gotta remember in order to get something you gotta basically GO GET IT.  This is life and sometimes we come across bumps along our journey to success, but don't give up.  Keep moving forward.  Whether you get there or not at least you can say you tried.  You can only learn from mistakes. Don't rush to climb the top of the ladder.  Steady wins the race I believe.  In high school we use to sing this song in chapel and it went like this

"Little by little, inch by inch, by a yard its hard by a inch its a cinch, never stair up the stairs just step of the steps.  Little by little inch by inch...it's a cinch."

What inspires you?

I think what truly inspires me is my dreams for a good life.  I want to wake up happy everyday and doing what I love makes me happy.  I love making money, and helping people.  Making people happy is also my inspiration.  What better form of advertisement can you have that is free then word of mouth.

My other inspiration is definitely my father also.  He taught me everything I know.  When it comes to the business and budgeting side of my life it all comes from my dad.  He always says and repeats this often to us "Don't cheat, don't lie, and don't hurt anybody."   I always apply this to my everyday life and whatever I do.  I put my faith in God, and believe in Karma, and know that if you do good things in life blessings will come.

We're training you to be champions!

This is a picture of my mastermind/business partner's "Dream Wall."

I'm a part of a Mastermind group (we call it the "OWL Council") made up of my two business partners, my mom, and myself.  We meet every Monday at 8:00 in the morning at a hotel lobby and we sit down...and wrestle with life.

We look at where we are not taking 100% responsibility in our business, life, and goals.  And it does feel like a mental wrestling match to pin yourself and your life down and focus on where we need to stop fooling around and get better at "our stuff."

And we are so grateful to be engaging in this 1 hour and 30 minute appointment with ourselves because it means that we are choosing to figure things out and arm ourselves against the contagious disease of drifting through life.
People who drift through life are people who...

- never seem to figure out money.  They always spend more than they make and they can't save a dime.

- never think for themselves and often just go along with what they're pestered to do because they've never developed the mental muscles to figure out what was best for them personally.

- don't have a definite purpose in life and so mediocrity sinks its lethargic claws into their spirit.

Don't let this happen to you!  Do whatever you have to do to stay on that upward spiral.  Read the books!  Listen to the audios!  Seek advice from people who are actually successful!  Get away from negative people!  Start a mastermind group and if you don't have anyone to meet with now, then set the appointment with yourself and a personal development book and do it by yourself in the beginning if you have to.  Refuse to give in to a life of average and mediocrity and stifled dreams.

Get in the ring.  Wrestle with life and win!  We're training you to be champions!  COME ON!
